“A Moment Please”
By j.anderson

For a moment
just the briefest of a segment
in the unraveling of a life
I heard gravel tossed up
under the floorboards of the 62 Chevy
dad bought as new
wrapped up with his pride
and driven as proof of success

My mind slipped out of automatic

I was back in the cabin
it was at least 50 years later
Dad had passed away years ago
before this present day
when hail hit the windows
bending time and place and memory
resurrecting the dead for just a moment
by tossing up gravel under the floorboards
like so very long ago.

“I am a recently retired High School Science Teacher newly relocated to the Harrison Hills area of Wisconsin directly south of Rhinelander.  Poetry is an outlet that I hope will keep my mind active for years to come now that the discussions of the classroom have been left behind.  When science teachers retire, suddenly Bees are enough.”
