“The Unfinished Work”
By Evelyn Pritchard

Life is the next blank page in an unwritten book
by a novelist with no name
a story that is only an idea in a book full of possibilities

Life is that next word on the line
It is the next thought to pop into a writer’s head
the next combination of those twenty-six letters learned in kindergarten

Life is that novel everyone wants to write
but they don’t because life happened instead

“This poem was inspired by the song “Unwritten.” I feel that a book is the best way to describe life because the only way to see how things turn out is to keep reading and turn to the next page.”
